Professor Fotios T. Gravanis graduated with an M.Sc in Agriculture (Major Field Plant Pathology) from the Agricultural University of Athens (1971). He was awarded his Ph.D in Plant Pathology from the Victoria University of Manchester, U.K. (1986). He is Emeritus Professor of Plant Protection at the Department of Agriculture, Technological Education Institute (T.E.I.) of Thessalia, Greece, where he served for 30 years. His major scientific interest focuses on soilborne pathogens and their means of control permitted in organic agriculture. Many of his scientific papers have been published in international scientific journals and in conference proceedings. He has been involved in EU programmes and initiatives concerning Higher Education and the Cooperation between Universities & Enterprises, such as ERASMUS, TEMPUS, COMETT and Leonardo da Vinci. His research experience includes the coordination of research projects (subsidized by the E.U., TEI Research Committee, etc.), the supervision of M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. theses, the evaluation of research projects as an external examiner for postgraduate theses and as a scientific journal’s referee, and as a collaborating researcher in joint inter-state projects. Ηe has also served as: a member of the Governing Board of the Open University of Cyprus, the Co-Founder and Director of the EUC Research Centre of the European University-Cyprus, Rector of the Varna Free University (Cyprus), Dean of Academic Affairs & Research at Neapolis University of Pafos. President of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece, Central Greece Branch, the Vice-President of the T.E.I. of Thessalia Research Committee, the Director of the Technological Research Centre of Thessalia Greece, Chair of the Department of Plant Production, T.E.I. of Thessalia, a member of the Governing Board of the Greek State Scholarship Foundation. Professor Gravanis has also been a member of the Preparatory Committee for the establishment of the Technological University of Cyprus and coordinator of a study team for the Agricultural Development of the Ionian Islands, Greece. |
